The IHI 28N-2 mini excavator, also referred to as the Gehlmax IHI 28N-2, is in the IHI 28N product line. The IHI 28N-2, in particular, is powered by a 22.1 hp water-cooled Yanmar 3TNV82A diesel engine. This compact excavator provides a bucket breakout force of 5,460 lbs with an 8’ 3”″ maximum digging depth, 14’ 2” digging radius, and a 9’ 4” maximum dumping height. In addition, the IHI 28N-2 has variable displacement pumps and two-speed travel with a maximum speed of 2.8 mph.
The IHI 28N-2 is a reasonably versatile machine that is easy to transport and can be used for a wide variety of jobs when outfitted with the right attachments. And even though IHI has discontinued this model, they are still very much in demand as used excavators. You’ll find these on everything from construction sites to small farms, used for everything from material handling to demolition.
